Here, at Homecarers, we love to engage with our staff and celebrate their successes. We were able to speak to Hannan and she shared a little bit about her life, how she got into care work and her experience working in care.
Hannan’s story
“My first job was in a nursery, looking after children. At first, I enjoyed it, but after a while, I started to feel bored because I was always in the same room. A friend suggested I try care work. I was really scared about starting a new career, especially since I didn’t have any qualifications in care, and I’m naturally quite shy. I thought I’d be terrible at it. But the job fit perfectly around my kids’ school times, and the office was so accommodating to my needs.
When I started my care job, it felt like a dream. From the very first day, I absolutely loved it! I realised that I’m a very empathetic person, and I genuinely love caring for others. It just clicked straight away. Making my clients smile and laugh, and listening to their stories, brings me so much joy. It never feels like work because I enjoy making others feel cared for.
One thing I’m really proud of is helping clients with their showers and personal care, especially those who find it really difficult and uncomfortable. Some clients even prefer to wait for me to assist them because they feel more comfortable with me. Also, I’ve been able to help clients think more positively. When I first met them, they were so down and just seemed to hate life. But with the little time I spend talking to them, their mindset has shifted, and they now look forward to the future. That makes me incredibly happy.”
