Here, at Homecarers, we love to engage with our staff and celebrate their successes. We were able to speak to Hannan and she shared a little bit about her life, how she got into care work and her experience working in care.
Michelle’s story
My story started on Friday the 30th August 2024, the day I lost my best friend. My nan. She was my everything, she taught me to be the woman I am today and I owe her everything. Losing her changed my whole mind set. On her dying days she told me (as she had for many years) that I would make a brilliant carer . She said I would love the job and I would find it so rewarding, so after she died on that Monday, I phoned HCL and asked for an interview.
I spoke to Nathan, he so was amazing! He was friendly and welcoming and invited me into the office for an interview that Wednesday. I was so happy. Wednesday came and the interview went well. I explained about my nan passing And that she was the driver in my decision to change from hospitality to home care. During my interview Nathan told me I got the job and I was thrilled.
Fast forward to October 2024. I finished all my training and was let out in the community. I have met the most amazing people! People from all different walks of life, I’ve met a lady that is 105 and served in world war 2, a lady that couldn’t speak English after her stroke but would shower me in kisses and gratitude and everyone in between.
After a couple of months of working for HCL I was working with a co-worker on a run in Walton. We started talking about our lives and family, my nan came up in conversation, as she does every day in my life anyway. I then learnt that this co-worker looked after my nan right up until the day she died and HCL had her care package, which is something I never ever knew as I was never with my nan when the carers were there.
It brought me so much comfort knowing that she was looked after by the very people I get to work along side and I know that they made her last few week alive the most comfortable and dignified as they possibly could. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to become part of the HCL family to learn and grow as a person. Working for HCL is the best decision I have ever made and I am looking forward to what the future will hold for me in this company.
