Supporting Our Carers Every Step Of The Way

supporting our carers

In the world of domiciliary care, compassion isn’t just a value, it’s the foundation of everything we do. Our care professionals are the lifeline for individuals who wish to remain independent in their own homes, offering not just practical support but emotional connection, dignity, and reassurance.

But while they dedicate themselves to the well-being of others, an important question remains: who is caring for the carers?

At Homecarers Care Services, we believe that supporting our carers every step of the way is important. When our team feels safe, supported, and valued, the quality of care they deliver improves dramatically. Which results in happier carers, healthier clients, and stronger communities.

The Emotional Demands of Domiciliary Care

Unlike many other professions, domiciliary care workers often operate in isolation, travelling between clients’ homes and managing a wide range of emotional and physical challenges. They form deep bonds with clients, many of whom are elderly, isolated, or living with complex conditions such as dementia or chronic illness.

Carers may be the only person a client sees all day. They provide comfort during difficult moments, celebrate small victories, and often grieve when a client passes away. Add to this the physical demands of the job, lifting, assisting with mobility, and managing unpredictable schedules and it’s clear that carers need strong support systems to maintain their own well-being.

Our Commitment to Mental Health and Well-being

At Homecarers Care Services, we’ve made staff well-being a top priority. We understand that a resilient, healthy workforce is essential to delivering consistent, compassionate care. That’s why we’ve implemented a range of initiatives designed to support our team both professionally and personally.

Mental Health First Aiders & Leads

We’ve trained a network of Mental Health First Aiders and Well-being Leads across our organisation. These team members are approachable, empathetic, and trained to offer immediate support, guidance, and referrals to professional services when needed.

TELUS Well-being Portal

All staff have access to the TELUS Well-being Portal, a confidential, 24/7 online platform offering:

  • Mental health and counselling services
  • Financial and legal advice
  • Health and lifestyle resources
  • Stress management tools

Whether someone is navigating personal challenges or simply looking to improve their work-life balance, the portal is a powerful tool for self-care and empowerment.

Safety First: Protecting Lone Workers with StrutSafe

Working alone, especially during evening or night shifts, can be daunting. That’s why we encourage our staff to use StrutSafe, a free UK-based helpline that connects users with trained volunteers who stay on the phone until they reach their destination safely.

StrutSafe Helpline

  • Number:  0333 335 0026
  • Hours:

 Fridays & Saturdays: 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM

 Sundays: 7:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Whether a carer is walking to a client’s home or returning to their car after a visit, StrutSafe offers peace of mind and a reassuring voice at the end of the line.

Why This Matters for Our Clients

When carers feel supported, they’re more engaged, more present, and more capable of delivering the kind of person-centred care that makes a real difference. Investing in staff well-being leads to:

  • Lower burnout and turnover
  • Stronger relationships with clients
  • Higher standards of care
  • Greater continuity and trust

Families notice the difference. Clients feel it every day. And our carers are empowered to do what they do best, care with compassion and confidence.

A Culture of Care Starts Within

At Homecarers Care Services, we know that exceptional care starts with a cared-for team. By investing in mental health resources, safety tools like StrutSafe, and a culture of empathy and respect, we’re not just improving the lives of our staff, we’re enhancing the lives of every person they support.
