Training at Homecarers – The story of Izzy

How does our training help our staff with progressing in their careers? A few months ago, we spoke to Isidalia (Izzy), one of our incredible Care Assistants who joined us to develop her knowledge and skills in the healthcare sector. She has been working for ourselves since 2022, alongside completing her nursing qualifications and placements for her nursing career.

Whilst working for ourselves, Izzy has had the opportunity to expand her knowledge on medication, hoist training, stoma care, personal care, and so much more within health and social care. In her own words, she has stated that working for Homecarers has allowed her to progress quicker in her career due to the training opportunities that we provide.

Here is what she had to say:

“I love working for Homecarers – when I am on my nursing placements and working in the hospital, everyone is always so shocked about how much I know about various medications. I tell them it is due to the training that I have received at Homecarers! It is very in depth and the training has helped me a lot, especially with completing my nursing qualifications. I would definitely recommend HCL to who is interested in health care setting, because this set of care job really helped me to improve a lot as a person and as a student nurse. With this job I gained knowledge in care sector that I didn’t know myself I was capable to achieve. I’m extremely proud and happy to be apart of HCL team as a staff member. It really helped me with my nursing program.”

This is just one excellent example of how we have helped our staff members progress in their career.

What does you offer in terms of training?

Once you have had a successful interview with our recruitment team, and have been sent an offer of employment, you will first complete induction training across 4 days, where you are taught everything you need to know about care work.

Our induction training covers a range of topics, such as:

  • The 6 C’s
  • Medication
  • Hoist training
  • Confidentiality
  • Manual Handling
  • The Mental Capacity Act
  • Dignity
  • And more!

We cover a range of different topics to ensure all of our staff are up to date on the best practices in care, and are able to provide exceptional service to each of our clients.

After completing this induction training, you will then go on to complete shadowing with another experienced colleague, which will take at least 30 hours of training. This is to ensure that you gain practical experience with a senior colleague to assist and show you the ropes.

Do you offer further qualifications?

Once you have passed your training and shadowing, and are now an official member of the Homecarer’s team upon signing your contract, you will have the opportunity to complete further qualifications to help you progress in your career.

We offer a range of qualifications, ranging from Level 2 all the way to Level 5 NVQ’s.

Here at Homecarers, we take pride in the qualifications and exceptional training that we offer, with 100% of our staff believe they received adequate training for their job role.

This sounds amazing! How can I have a similar experience to Izzy, and join your team?
