Why choose Learning Difficulties Care

Promotes Independence and Life Skills

Home-based care empowers individuals with learning difficulties to develop and maintain essential life skills—like cooking, cleaning, personal care, and money management—within a familiar environment. This encourages long-term independence and self-confidence.

Personalised, One-to-One Support

Unlike in a care home where staff must support multiple residents, care at home is tailored to the individual’s unique needs, routines, and goals. Carers work closely with the person to provide consistent, personalised support at their own pace.

Familiar Environment Reduces Anxiety

For individuals with learning difficulties, routine and familiarity are key to feeling safe and secure. Being at home eliminates the stress and sensory overload that may come with communal living settings, reducing anxiety and behavioural challenges.

Encourages Family Involvement

Being cared for at home helps maintain close relationships with family and friends and allows the individual to remain an active part of their local community. This improves emotional well-being and helps reduce feelings of isolation.

Continuity of Care with Trusted Carers

At-home care services often involve a small, consistent team of carers, which helps build trust and long-term relationships. This continuity provides emotional stability and better outcomes for those who thrive on familiarity.

Family Involvement and Peace of Mind

Families can be closely involved in the individual’s life and care, supporting emotional well-being and providing reassurance. Being cared for at home makes it easier for loved ones to visit, participate, and maintain strong relationships.

More information and FAQs

Learning difficulties care at home is tailored support provided to individuals with conditions such as autism, Down’s syndrome, or global developmental delay. It helps them live as independently as possible by assisting with daily tasks, building life skills, and supporting social and emotional well-being – all within the comfort of their own home.

We offer a wide range of support, including personal care, medication management, meal preparation, help with household tasks, support with education or employment, and assistance with accessing social activities. Each care plan is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and goals.

Yes. We work closely with each person and their family to create a care plan that fits their routine, preferences, and aspirations. Whether it’s support in the mornings, evenings, or around specific activities, we aim to provide care that enhances independence and quality of life.

Wherever possible, we ensure consistency by assigning a small team of carers. This helps build trust and familiarity, which is especially important for people with learning difficulties who may find change difficult or unsettling.

You can get in touch with our team for a free consultation. We’ll discuss your needs, answer any questions, and create a tailored care plan. We also work with local authorities or funding bodies if care is arranged through direct payments or care packages.

Care stories

Homecarers looked after my mum when she was discharged from hospital. The carers were absolutely lovely and really built a bond with my mum. They cared for her with dignity and respect. They built up a strong relationship with my mum and she trusted them with her care. The girls were not only her carers, but they were her friends. They were friendly and polite and did their absolute best for my mum.

Mrs. Sharon M (Daughter of Service User)

I'm very happy with the care provided. The girls are lovely and nice as I have regular carers and I am comfortable with them. Provide good care for myself and the gentleman who lives with me. The carers provide personal care, food and fluids, do the domestic chores communicate effectively with me and the gentleman who lives with me.

Ms IL (Service User)

The amazing ladies from the palliative care team were more than we could hope for. They very quickly got to know what was important to Mum. Nothing was too much trouble, they made Mum laugh and were genuinely caring human beings. When my mum was ill, they waited at her house until midnight when the paramedics came. They were also knowledgeable and thoughtful and supported us as daughters.
