The Great Daffodil Appeal 2025 – Fundraising for Marie Curie

The Great Daffodil Appeal 2025

We are taking part in the Great Daffodil Appeal this March, and on the back of winning the prestigious High Commendation Award for Best in Palliative/End-of-life Care Expertise at the HCA Awards, we aim to support the incredible Marie Curie charity wherever we can.

So, at Homecarers Liverpool, we are running a ‘Wear it Yellow’ day on the 25th March, fundraising for a cause extremely close to our hearts.

What is the Great Daffodil Appeal?

The Great Daffodil Appeal is Marie Curie’s biggest fundraising campaign, which runs every March. During this time, you can purchase a yellow daffodil from local superstores in return for a small donation, showing support and solidarity for those affected by terminal illness. Within that month, you can also choose to do any fundraiser of your choice, with donations going directly to Marie Curie, funding the outstanding end-of-life care and support they provide for service users and their loved ones.

Whilst we are ‘Wearing it Yellow’ for Marie Curie, there are number of ways YOU can get involved and start fundraising:

  • Take part in a bake sale
  • Do a sponsored run, walk or swim.
  • Run a fundraiser with your colleagues at work.

Or whatever you choose! Any fundraiser will help support the Marie Curie with ensuring they can provide their essential services to those in need.

How will my donation help?

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will help fund the essential support that Marie Curie provide to service users and their loved ones, but here is a few examples of the impact your donations can have:

  • £10 – Funds 2 hours of heating in a Marie Curie Hospice.
  • £23 – Funds 1 hour of vital nursing care in the comfort of a service user’s own home.
  • £64 – Funds 2 hours of bereavement counselling for those needing emotional support.

Where can I donate?

If you would like to donate, you can either leave donation to our JustGiving page for our ‘Wear it Yellow’ day here, or leave a donation directly on the Marie Curie website.

What palliative care do we provide?

At Homecarers Liverpool, we have our dedicated STARS team who work alongside Marie Curie to offer exceptional end-of-life care to our service users, providing support and assistance to not only our clients, but also their loved ones.

Here is what Linda Bennett and Catherine Bernard, members of our STARS team, had to say about the end-of-life care they provide:

I think the STARS are an amazing service. We are there to give practical and emotional support for service users and their family. They welcome us into their homes trust us to look after there loved ones with the dignity they deserve – families sometimes say things to us they wouldn’t say to other family members as they don’t want to upset them. We become part of their family, and they are so grateful for anything we do to help them. I feel honoured and privileged to be part of the STARS team.” – Linda Bennett

Being an end-of-life carer is one of the most amazing job roles that we have the honour to do on a daily basis. Giving not only care to our service users, but also there families the care and support they both need. It is a role that not only gives all aspects of personal care, but we are able to be a helping hand and a good listener when needed. We try and put ourselves in there position and deliver the best care possible for those involved. Making sure their journey is done as best we can. We are all so proud of the role we do, but most of all being there.” – Catherine Bernard

We also received a statement from Coordination Contract Lead, Rebecca Halpin, who manages our STARS team here at our Liverpool branch:

“Our palliative contract is one of the most rewarding I believe we provide – we strive to deliver the absolute best care possible whilst providing compassion and empathy to those we care for and their relatives.

I am incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful team and proud of the team we have in the community for their dedication and compassion when delivering care.”

What a beautiful testament to the palliative we provide here at Homecarers Care Services.
