Mental Health Awareness Month 2025

How did Mental Health Awareness Month begin?

The concept was introduced by mental health America In 1949, to raise awareness and start conversations around the importance of mental wellbeing, taking place every May since then.

This year’s Theme

The theme for this year is “turn awareness into Action” encouraging further steps into fostering good mental health for all, this is teamed with the motto “be seen in green”, which has lead to buildings being lit up green to show support.

The importance this year

Mental Health America has completed psychological screenings across the past year, the results of which where released on the 1st of May to kick off the month ahead. The screenings revealed within those struggling, 60% of individuals indicated they had never received treatment for any condition or negative thoughts and feelings before. Starting conversations about mental struggles can allow people to find the bravery to speak up and get help.
