With our 30th Anniversary celebrations taking place tomorrow, we would like to run you all through the history of Homecarers Care Services, right from 1994 when we were first established, to now.

1994 – The Beginning of Homecarers History
Homecarers Care Services was born! Founded by Karen, bringing her experience as a district nurse into the world of home care. With just 10 staff and a handful of private clients, the journey began—right from a home office.
1996 – Our First Home
We moved into our first office in Childwall (above a dentist, no less!). Our reputation grew, and we began working with Liverpool and Knowsley Social Services, expanding our care across the city.
2000 – A Game Changer
Securing a three-year block contract with Liverpool City Council changed everything! Competition was fierce, with over 40 providers in the mix, but we became one of just six preferred providers—securing our future growth.
2005 – Bigger & Better
Our continued success led us to 8 Childwall Valley Road, giving us the space we needed to grow.
2008 – Expanding Again!
We expanded into numbers 4 and 6, investing in on-site training facilities and championing apprenticeships. As a Skills for Care Apprenticeship Employer Champion, we helped shape the next generation of care workers.
Mid-2000s – Leading the Way
- Piloted Skills for Care induction standards.
- Chaired Liverpool Care Providers and joined the Health & Social Care Champions Board to help reshape services in response to austerity.
- Among the first to implement electronic care records (PASS system).
2010s – Innovation & Growth
- 2018 – A Defining Moment: Acquisition by Clece Care Services
- A new era began as Homecarers became part of Clece Care Services, a leading European care provider.
- This acquisition brought new investment, innovation, and opportunities, ensuring Homecarers had the backing to grow, expand, and evolve in an ever-changing care landscape.
- We became Clece’s first company in the North West, setting the foundation for regional expansion and service diversification.
- Pioneered hospital discharge pilot projects, helping people return home safely.
2018 – Strengthening Our Service Portfolio
- Partnered with Marie Curie, securing a three-year contract to deliver STARS End of Life Care.
- 2019 – Liverpool Success: Retained our position as a prime provider for Liverpool’s Help to Live at Home contract, making us one of the largest care providers in the city.
2020s – Expanding Across the North West
- 2021 – Reablement Services Launched! Won the HomeFirst contract, helping people leave hospital and regain independence at home.
- 2022 – A New Home: We moved into our state-of-the-art headquarters at Liverpool Innovation Park, featuring a cutting-edge training centre and 4,500 sq/ft of modern facilities.
2023 – A Year of Transformation – Chester Joins the Family!
A true milestone in our history—the expansion into Chester doubled the size of our organisation overnight. This move:
✅ Increased the number of people we support by 100%, growing our care delivery to over 750 service users.
✅ Doubled our workforce, welcoming hundreds of new team members into the Homecarers family.
✅ Diversified our services, introducing Extra Care Housing schemes alongside our home care provision.
✅ Strengthened our presence across the North West, bringing our expertise to a brand-new region.
Alongside this, we also:
- Won the Rapid Discharge contract for West Cheshire and Mid Cheshire, supporting fast, safe hospital discharges.
- Successfully re-tendered for Knowsley, expanding our services further.
2024 – Strengthening Our Foundations
- Secured an extension to our Marie Curie End of Life Care contract, continuing to provide vital palliative support.
2025 – Today, we celebrate
Homecarers now:
✅ Supports over 750 people across the North West
✅ Delivers 20,000 visits per week
✅ Employs over 600 incredible staff
✅ Operates across Liverpool, Knowsley, Chester, and beyond
✅ Backed by Clece Care Services, securing our future for years to come
