Onboarding process with Homecarers Care Services.

What does our onboarding process look like? Here, we talk about the journey from job application to providing exceptional care in the community with Homecarers Care Services.

Are you looking to start a career in care? Not sure what to expect? Keep reading to find out what steps you will need to take during the onboarding process in order to start making a difference to people’s lives.

Onboarding process

Step 1 – Application

The first step of the onboarding process is to apply to one of our vacancies via Indeed. We have a number of vacancies currently available, from Care Assistant to Care Co-ordinator.

If your application is successful, one of our fabulous members of our Recruitment teams, Nathan or Jamee (Liverpool branch), or Tricia or Alissa (Cheshire branch), will be in touch to book you in for an interview within a few working days of your application.

Step 2 – Interview

Once you have been contacted by a member of our Recruitment team, and are all booked in for your interview, it is time to prepare!

Don’t worry – it’s not as scary as it seems. The interview will consist of a number of personality-based questions and scenario-based questions to see if you are suitable for the role.

Here are just a few tips from our interviewers, Nathan, Jamee, Tricia and Alissa, to prepare you for your upcoming interview:

“The most important thing is to be yourself. At the end of the day, we want to find caring, compassionate, and empathetic people who want to make a difference to people’s lives. We are also looking for punctuality, as this is an essential part of the role, so make sure you are on time for your interview and plan your route in advance.

But most of all – don’t be nervous! If you are passionate about working in care, and providing exceptional service, then you will be the right candidate for Homecarers Care Services.”

Your interview will either take place at one our head offices in Liverpool (Liverpool-based applicants) or Cheshire (Cheshire-based applicants), or over teams. If your interview is successful, you will be informed and be asked to join our next available induction training session, to teach you everything you need to know about care.

Step 3 – Induction Training

Once you are booked on to induction training, you will be required to attend a 4-day training course, taught by our knowledgeable trainers, Ian (eduk8 – Liverpool) and Mark (Richmond – Cheshire).

You will be taught a range of topics from confidentiality, to manual handling, to medication. Manual handling will include training on how to use a hoist, standing aids, and much more.

So, whether you have no experience in care or over 10 years, you will be taught all you need to know about care.

Step 4 – Shadowing

Once you have completed your induction training, you will then complete a number of shadowing shifts with an experienced member of our care team, to ensure you are provided with practical experience providing care in the community.

Shadowing, combined with our 4-day induction, is an essential part of our onboarding process, ensuring you are provided with the correct training for the role.

During shadowing, you will be shown how to use our Access Care App, how to write care notes to a good standard, how to ensure you are providing person-centred care by thoroughly reading through the individual’s care plan, and much more.

Step 5 – Providing Care

Once you have completed your full training (induction and shadowing) along with at least 2 references and DBS, you are good to go out into the community and provide excellent care to our service users.
