Support Over Christmas 2024 – TELUS Health, The Care Workers Charity, and the Royal Voluntary Service

Support Over Christmas

We know the Christmas period can be difficult, which is why we encourage all of our staff and service users to reach out for support if they need it. We have a number of outlets available to our staff for support through our Employee Assistance Programme with TELUS Health, and partnership with the Care Workers Charity. We have also recently welcomed our latest charity partnership with the Royal Voluntary Service, which offers support to our service users, and vulnerable adults in the community.

It is important at this time of the year, that we are prioritising our wellbeing at every opportunity, and taking extra care when it comes to our mental health.

What support do we offer to our staff?

Whilst being a Care Assistant is all about helping others, it is important to ensure our staff are looking after themselves and prioritising their mental well-being.

Here is what these support outlets have to offer:

TELUS Health

  • Free support phone line and chat box (please call 0800 169 1920 for direct support).
  • Wellbeing and personal development videos.
  • Toolkits hub.
  • CareNow programmes.
  • Health check assessments.
  • 5 free counselling sessions for friends or family.

The Care Workers Charity

  • Crisis Grants.
  • Series of up to 10 support sessions with a qualified therapist (can be obtained through self-referral, and can be either in person or online).
  • Wellbeing resources.
  • Regular meetings/discussion panels with care workers.

Both TELUS Health and support from the Care Workers Charity (CWC) is available to all staff here at Homecarers Care Services, including access to the CWC crisis grant.

Here is what the RVS have to offer to our service users, and vulnerable adults in the community:

  • 1 on 1 support.
  • Calls with Care – regular scheduled calls with volunteers to provide support and companionship.
  • Home Library service – bringing books/audiobooks to those who can’t reach libraries to engage with reading again.
  • Community and patient transport.
  • Companionship and assistance with their Community Champions.
  • Dementia support, including; Living Well with dementia, Remember Me cafe’s, Memory Lane (cognitive stimulation therapy), and more.
  • Their Virtual Village Hall, dedicated to improving social lives of vulnerable adults who can not leave their homes through virtual live sessions.
  • Lunch clubs, which are social spaces where people can enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal.
  • Social clubs & events, covering a whole host of hobbies and interests.
  • Their Healthy, Happy Lives programme – designed to enjoy activities in local community centres.
  • Community cafe’s, similar to lunch clubs.
