This month is the #GreatDaffodilAppeal for Marie Curie, and we are ‘Wearing it Yellow’ on the 21st of March in support! We are holding a fundraiser event at our head office were all of our staff will be wearing an item of yellow clothing, wearing their daffodil pins, bringing in their yellow bakes and taking part in fun-filled quiz.
Who are the Marie Curie charity and what do they do?
Marie Curie are the UK’s leading end-of-life charity who provide support to individuals who have a terminal illness and their loved ones. Marie Curie offer a range of support to palliative patients in their own homes, such as support with emotional well-being, personal care, managing physical symptoms, help with everyday tasks, and talking about your needs and wishes. Marie Curie’s goal is to ensure that the individual is as comfortable as possible towards the end of their life.
Who is end-of-life care available for?
End-of-life care is available for those who are suffering with a terminal illness and are in their last few days, weeks, or even months of their life. This is dependent on a case-by-case basis, as it can be difficult to predict the timeframe of when you may need end-of-life care.
Can I or my loved one receive end-of-life care at home?
If you are currently living in your own home, then Marie Curie can provide end-of-life care in your own home. This is often more comfortable for the individual than receiving end-of-life care at home.
If you are receiving end-of-life care at home, you may be supported by the following professionals:
- GP
- District Nurse
- Healthcare Assistants
- A specialist palliative care team
- Social care workers
These professionals will offer you a range of support such as prescribing and administering medication, and managing both physical and mental symptoms.
Here at Homecarers Liverpool, we have a team of specially trained home care assistants who are trained in end-of-life care. This is our STARS team (Supportive and End of Life Care Services), who will provide support to you and your loved ones in the comfort of your own home. For more information about the services that we offer, please visit our services page here.
What are Homecarers doing for Marie Curie?
This March, we are going yellow on ALL of our social media pages and holding a ‘Wear it Yellow’ event on the 21st of March 2024. We will also be a collection point if you would like to purchase a daffodil pins from ourselves – all we ask is a small donation that will go directly to Marie Curie. You can also donate to our JustGiving page here.
Your donations will help fund nurses for those in need of end-of-life care. Every 5 minutes, someone dies because they have not received proper end-of-life care to support them in their final days. So why don’t you help us support Marie Curie with their amazing cause?
Let’s get fundraising together!
