What is National Apprenticeship Week?

This week is National Apprenticeship week!

National Apprenticeship Week aims to bring awareness to opportunities available involving apprenticeships across various sectors. Here at Homecarers Care Services, we have offered a variety of different courses ranging from Business Admin, HR and Digital Marketing apprenticeships.

We spoke to our Business Admin apprentice, Alissa, and listened to what she had to say about her experience with her apprenticeship. We asked her “Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?”, to which she responded “I choose to do an apprenticeship to develop my skills, as I would like to pursue a career in business in the future. An apprenticeship will also help me gain important experience. An apprenticeship also gives me a hand-on experience, and the opportunity to gain qualifications while I work.”. Alissa emphasises the importance of starting an apprenticeship to gain knowledge whilst working alongside, meaning she is gaining practical experience whilst also gaining valuable knowledge with your apprenticeship training.

We also asked Alissa: “How have Homecarers Care Services supported you in your apprenticeship and professional development?”, to which she responded “Homecarers Care Services has supported me by helping me get involved in different projects boosting my knowledge, they have also given me plenty of time to complete my assessments, ensuring I do not feel stressed or under pressure at any moment.” Alissa explains the importance of being supported indefinitely whilst completing her apprenticeship – whilst an apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job work, sometimes this can be difficult to manage the two. So, it is extremely important to work for a company who support you through and through with your apprenticeship, and at Homecarers Care Services.

What are the benefits of apprenticeships?

The benefits of apprenticeships include, but are not limited to:

  • Offer on-the-job and off-the-job training.
  • Earn whilst you learn!
  • Gain practical experience by doing your job.
  • Gain recognised qualifications.
  • Improve your employability
  • There are a number of different apprenticeships you can do.
  • No debt!

Apprenticeships offer a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills while gaining practical experience. They provide a supportive environment where individuals like Alissa can engage in various projects, broaden their knowledge, and receive ample time to complete assessments, reducing stress and pressure. At Homecarers Care Services, apprentices are supported throughout their journey, recognizing the significance of ongoing support in successfully balancing on-the-job and off-the-job responsibilities.

How can I start an apprenticeship?

To start an apprenticeship, you need to meet the eligibility requirements, which include having a minimum level C in both Maths and English. Additionally, you can search for apprenticeship opportunities through various platforms and websites. It is important to carefully read and follow the application instructions provided by the specific apprenticeship program or employer.

Once you find a suitable apprenticeship, you can submit your application, which may involve providing your personal information, education history, and any relevant work experience. Finally, if your application is successful, you will go through an interview or assessment process before officially starting your apprenticeship. Once you have started your apprenticeship, you will then learn about your chosen course through both classroom learning and projects, and practical on-the-job training/tasks.

How can I found out more about what you offer?

We offer a range of apprenticeships such as Digital Marketing, Business Administration, Finance and Adult Carer apprenticeships (yes, you can do an apprenticeship in care work!). So depending on what you are interested in and what career path you want to take, we offer courses for everyone.
